U.S. heart transplant pioneer died at 83

Dr. Norman Shumway, the first U.S. surgeon to perform a heart transplant, as well as the world's first successful heart-lung transplant, died of lung cancer Feb. 10 at his home in Palo Alto, California at the age of 83.
