TEE, New Cardiac Imaging for Better Heart Pictures
Filed in archive Diagnostics on March 26, 2006
There is a newer form of cardiac imaging that provides doctors with better imaging of the heart, called transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).
TEE is a procedure where a probe is inserted into the esophagus that transmits radio waves. These waves are bounced off the heart and provide a moving image that can be seen more clearly than a traditional echocardiogram.
The in-depth heart images that TEE generates provide further insight into certain conditions, and how doctors treat them. By using TTE in the diagnosis of stroke and transient ischemic attack patients, appropriate care can be extended in a large percentage of these patients.

This post seems to confuse TTE and TEE. TTE, or transthoracic echocardiography is the standard echo procedure. TEE, or transesophageal echocardiography is a newer procedure where the transducer is threaded through the mouth down into the esophagus, resulting in higher quality images. That said, it's not accurate to call TEE a "new" invention, as it's been around and in wide use for quite some time.

thanks adam for the heads-up. i was indeed referring to TEE. I guess it is referred to here as the newer form of cadiac imaging as compared to the traditional echo procedure. :))
