Stanol-Enriched Low-Fat Cheese May Help Lower Cholesterol Levels

high cholesterol levels or hypercholesterolaemia have long been associated to many diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases. That's why researches on cholesterol-lowering foods, ingredients and compounds are always on the rise.
According to new study by finish companies, Raisio and Valio, a stanol-enriched cheese could help lower cholesterol levels by over 5%.
This new study that looked into the effect of a stanol-enriched low-fat cheese on the cholesterol levels of 67 volunteers with mild hypercholesterolaemia is published online in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition (doi: 10.1038/sj.ejcn.1602445).
Stanol ester is a heterogenous group of chemical compounds known to reduce the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in blood when ingested.
