It's the second week of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, La Roche-Posay wants to remind us that practicing safe sun this season is of utmost importance.
Did you know that tanning beds are actually MORE harmful than regular UV rays?
In fact, The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) (part of the World Health Organization) made the recommendation to add tanning beds to the highest cancer risk category - "carcinogenic to humans" -- they based their decision after review of recent research published in The Lancet Oncology that found:
- One burn in a tanning bed equals 10 to 12 sunburns
- People who use tanning beds before age 30 increase their risk for melanoma by 75 percent
Despite all these facts, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, 26% of young Americans have used tanning beds in the past year.
