When I gave birth by c-section almost five years ago, my ob/gyne didn't ask which incision i would prefer: the bikini cut/horizontal cut (hip to hip cut) or the granny cut/vertical cut (pubic bone to belly button cut).
Maybe because my surgery was an emergency one and not planned. It was a measure to save my baby from distressing because i didn't dilate even with the help of oxytoxins. You know...that stuff used for inducing labor.
So the incision used on me was the vertical one, which is what is defaultly done in this part of the world. And I guess because mine was an emergency c-section, my doctor didn't get the chance to ask me.
But, i do not really mind as I haven't worn a bikini in public anyway. Besides, I have always thought that a vertical incision gets to heal better than the much-preferred bikini cut. I may be wrong.
However, five years later and the scar of the cut in the middle of my tummy is not looking good. Imagine extra butts in front of you?! I need to lose more weight or maybe get a tummy tuck. he he.
Anyways, from the medical standpoint, the vertical cut allows quicker access to the baby.
Alright, alright. I should have asked for a bikini cut five years ago.
Your thoughts?

chuck, i totally agree. and yes even if the vertical cut heals nicely it will look ugly through time. wearing girdle all the time really helps.

I have a friend who's had both. Imagine. Her first C-section was the bikini type, the 2nd was an absolute emergency c-section and the Dr (not hers) did it vertically. Let me tell you it's not pretty. Her Dr was upset to see that the vertical was done. He believed, after having read the report, that there was no danger to the baby in the extra time it would have taken. Poor sweetie is like your wife Chuck and won't wear anything that shows off her stomach. She hates even showing it to her husband.

Her appearance is a source of self consciousness. I would love to see more women given the choice of cut.
