Probiotics Reduce Risk of Liver Cancer
Filed in archive Studies , Treatment on June 8, 2006
In most populated countries, fungal toxins in food are the leading cause of liver cancer. Researchers from the University of Kuopio (supported by grants from the Academy of Finland and Valio Ltd.) found that a daily supplement of probiotics can reduce the risk of liver cancer cause by fungal toxins in food.
"Probiotic-based food products may be an effective dietary prevention that could be implemented in many regions of the world to prevent the development of liver cancer or other environmentally induced cancers," wrote the researchers in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Vol. 83, pp. 1199-1203).
