Periodontal Diseases Can Worsen Pre-Diabetes Symptoms
A condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes is called pre-diabetes.

Danish researchers found that periodontal diseases (diseases of the gum) could be a contributing factor to the progression of pre-diabetes.

According to Dr. Carla Pontes Andersen, Department of Periodontology at the University of Copenhagen;

"This study found that having periodontal diseases can alter the metabolic conditions which would probably lead to the progression to pre-diabetic characteristics and Type 2 diabetes."


These findings, which appeared in the March issue of the Journal of Periodontology reiterate the importance of taking care of teeth and gum health.
