(lipid-lowering medicine, brand name: Lipitor®) with amlodipine (blood-pressure lowering medicine, brand name: Norvasc®) has been found to be more beneficial to adults with high blood pressure and additional heart disease risk factors than two tablets. As newly by researchers, one tablet combination of atorvastatin-amlodipine is less costly but is at least as effective as two tablet combination in the prevention of cardiovascular events.
A single tablet combination of amlodipine/atorvastatin is available in the market as Caduet® and is taken by patients once daily.
According to Timothy W. Smith, lead author of the study and senior director of Informatics for ValueMedics Research (a unit of IMS Health Inc), a health outcomes research and consulting firm in Falls Church, Va.:
