As newly by researchers, one tablet combination of atorvastatin-amlodipine is less costly but is at least as effective as two tablet combination in the prevention of cardiovascular events.
A single tablet combination of amlodipine/atorvastatin is available in the market as Caduet® and is taken by patients once daily.
According to Timothy W. Smith, lead author of the study and senior director of Informatics for ValueMedics Research (a unit of IMS Health Inc), a health outcomes research and consulting firm in Falls Church, Va.:
"This is a novel research approach that examines the economic and clinical implications of high blood pressure and cholesterol in the real world."
The findings have been recently presented at the American Heart Association's 8th Scientific Forum on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke.

Caduet has two ingredients. One is Amlodipine and the other is Atorvastatin. With my RxDrugCard I can get 30 tablets of Amlodipine for $9 and 30 tablets of Simvastatin for $9. I’ll bet they are charging more than $18 for this new drug!
