On Infections from Contact Lens, Contact Lens Solution and Product Recall
Filed in archive Cases on May 27, 2007
If you haven't yet read my post on Acuvue® Oasys™ contact lenses, please do and take note of the unanimous reader feedback of being allergic and getting infection from the new-generation silicone- hydrogel lenses (senofilcon-A) that Acuvue® Oasys™ is made of.
As much as I would like to help you guys, I can only keep on writing about your experiences on Acuvue® Oasys™. However, I strongly suggest that you report your horrible Acuvue® Oasys™ experiences to your ophthalmologists and urge them to report the cases to the makers of Acuvue Oasys, which is Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. Once J&J have enough complaints on the product, I really think they will be forced to review it and recall the product from the market if necessary.
[I am really hoping that this get picked up as I already made enough links to Acuvue® Oasys™ and J&J.]
Now...speaking of product recalls, Advanced Medical Optics (a California company) has voluntarily recalled all of its AMO Complete® Moisture Plus™ Multi-Purpose Solution products, in light of a federal investigation that tied its production to a potentially blinding infection - as reported by The New York Times.
If you have purchased one of these AMO contact lenses solutions, carefully check out the FDA listing of the lot numbers being recalled.

A dusty atmosphere and chemical fumes may damage your lenses, if they are left uncovered..For my contact lenses I have a good quality solution which I purchased from lens.com through couponAlbum......

I was using the AMO Solution and found out I had a big ulceration in my left eye..for awhile I had no vision in that eye. I went to a professional and saw him for several weeks and was prescribed a variety of eye drops. Could this be related to the AMO Recall issue?

Well that's one of the biggest problems with using contact lenses, you just have to be really careful when wearing them. Just handle them carefully.

I have also had NUMEROUS infections, swelling, itching, etc, since wearing the Acuvue® Oasys™ contacts. My Dr. has even put me on steroid eye drops for my problems...Now, I find out from this blog that it's the CONTACTS! Ugh... I am acutally seeing my Dr. today and was wondering what contacts other folks are now using? Please respond asap as I leave for the Dr. office in 2 hours. Thank you all for sharing your information.

Wearing contact lenses, even if it may be hard to believe, can become really dangerous.

I heard that most infections come from cheap contact lenses, since they are of a poor quality, but I'm not sure how true that is.

There are so many controversies around wearing contact lenses or not.. I find it pretty dangerous myself.

I'm doing an article on contact lenses and I'm interested in speaking to someone (through email) in regards to their experience with them both positive and negative, especially infections. If you could email me at rachelflaherty@iinet.net.au. Thanks!

Health advice, like this one, about wearing contact lenses, is very useful, especially when we talk about colored contact lenses, that most people superficially wear.

I bought some Acuvue Oasys in 2009 and since the first time I put it on it has given me a an eye infection and redness. My eyes did not heal for a year. My eye doctor said it was an allergy the i might have developed from the contact lense but did not give me a refund because I bought a year of supply. Acuvue Oasys has given me grief.

I have been wearing contacts for 7 years and I switched to Acuvue Oasys Hydraclear two years ago. In December my right eye went completely blurry and itchy feeling like sandpaper. It clears up when I sleep yet when I wake up it comes back within ten minutes. I am so frustrated and sick of spending money on eye appointments where they tell me it's SPK(Superficial punctate Keratitis. After reading all the comments about how awful these contacts are I truly believe they should be recalled.
