Nitroglycerin Patch for Premature Labour Helps Babies' Health
Filed in archive Treatment on February 4, 2007
Administration of nitroglycerin to women in premature labour significantly improved their babies' health, especially in babies born at 24 to 28 weeks.
Such were the findings of a Queen's University-led study.
The study shows that using nitroglycerin patches for pregnant women helps to prolong pregnancy and -- most importantly -- improves babies' outcome, with fewer side effects than experienced through the use of other drugs.
The five-year randomized trial that involved 153 women in premature labour have been highlighted as an "Editor's Choice" in the January issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
