Neupro® (rotigotine transdermal system): First FDA-Approved Parkinson's Disease Patch
The first patch for Parkinson's disease has recently been approved by the USFDA: Neupro® (rotigotine transdermal system).

A product of Schwarz Bioscience (U.S. subsidiary of Schwarz Pharma AG), Neupro works by delivering the drug rotigotine (a dopamine agonist) continuously through the skin (transdermal) using a silicone-based patch that is replaced every 24 hours.

[A dopamine agonist works by activating dopamine receptors in the body, mimicking the effect of the neurotransmitter dopamine.]

Neupro is the first transdermal patch approved for the treatment of symptoms of Parkinson's disease - belongs to a group of conditions called motor system disorders that is a result of the loss of dopamine-producing brain cells.
