More Fruits In Childhood Is Less Asthma in Adults
Filed in archive Studies , Treatment on May 24, 2006
Adding to the growing body of scientific evidence that supports the health benefits of fruits, Cambridge researchers found in a recent study that people with an antioxidant-rich diet could reduce their risk of developing asthma in adulthood.
"We have found symptomatic asthma in adults to be associated with a low intake of the dietary antioxidants vitamin C and manganese. The low intake of vitamin C appears to primarily associated with a diet deficient in fruit," wrote corresponding author Dr. Nick Wareham.
Asthma is a condition on the rise in the Western world and currently the most common long-tern condition in the UK. This study seems to support a growing scientific evidence that has linked antioxidant intake (specifically, vitamins C and E) to the incidence of asthma.
