March Is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month

As March being the AMD (age-related macular degeneration) Awareness Month, the American Academy of Ophthalmology is reminding people that even though there is no cure to AMD, there are current treatments that can recover vision loss (further preventing blindness) and that early detection of the condition is the key to saving eyesight.

People aged above 50 is recommended to see an ophthalmologist for a comprehensive, dilated eye examination every one to two years to ensure that AMD and other vision-threatening conditions are detected and treated early.

This year's AMD awareness month was a great success. Plus, if you just do a bit of research, you will find that there is so much research into this area right now that it's almost overwhelming. New developments and new drugs are constantly being looked at. The options are so much greater now than what it was a year ago when my mother was diagnosed. It's unbelievable.
