Having a diet rich in foods like lentils gives a greater possibility of losing eating. Foods like lentils release energy slowly once consumed as opposed to foods that rapidly release sugar into the blood stream like white bread.

In short, foods like lentils have a low-glycemic index which should be what diabetics and weight/health conscious people should eat more of.

According to Dr Diana Thomas, the Scientific Director of the Centre for Evidence Based Paediatrics gastroenterology and Nutrition, in Westmead, Australia and lead author of the Cochrane Systematic Review:

"Low glycaemic index diets appear to be particularly effective for people who are obese. It may be easier to adhere to a low glycaemic index diet than a conventional weight loss diet, since there is less need to restrict the intake of food so long as the carbohydrates consumed have a low glycaemic index."

What are lentils anyway? Lentils (Lens culinaris) are legumes -the vegetable with the highest level of protein other than soybeans and popular in South Asia where there is a large population of vegetarians.
