LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System Has Fewer Complications than Gastric Bypass
Filed in archive Diagnostics , Treatment on February 27, 2007
Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) and laparoscopic Roux-en Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) are two bariatric surgical procedures performed in the United States for the treatment of morbid obesity.
LAP-BAND® System is the only FDA-approved adjustable implant device for individualized weight loss under the LAGB procedure.
Clinical data of a 5-year study (led by researchers from Legacy Good Samaritan Obesity Institute) comparing the safety of the two procedures (LAGB and LRYGB) revealed that the LAP-BAND® System results in significantly fewer complications, shorter operative times, and shorter hospital stays compared to LRYGB.
