IVF and Excessive Folate Intake May Increase Twin Births

IVF or in-vitro fertilization is a popular infertility treatment whose 20% of treatment cycles result in pregnancy and livebirth. Pregnant women have long been advised for folate supplement I order to lessen the risk of spina bifida in delivered infants.
Recently, a new study published in the latest issue of The Lancet (vol.367, pp. 1513-1519), reports that women undergoing IVF and with excessive folate intake during pregnancy have increased births of twins: An issue for consideration in lieu of the folate fortification of flour in the UK.
Well, who wouldn't want twins? If undergoing IVF and you do not want a double bundle of joy, folate intake should be well-regulated.
