Have More Cabbages and Broccolis while Pregnant and Protect your Child Against Cancer
There is new research (in laboratory mice) from the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University which suggests that supplementation of a phytochemical called Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C) provided a very high level of protection against leukemia and lymphoma in young animals while also significantly protected against lung cancer during the rodent's middle age equivalent.

Apparently, I3C is found naturally in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cabbage.

While pregnant and nursing women are encouraged to eat generous amounts of such kind of vegatables bacause it could protect their children from cancer both in infancylinks and adulthood, supplementation of this compound (which is actually commercially available) by pregnant women is not recommended by scientists because of its possible role in causing birth defects when ingested at high levels in the first trimester of pregnancy.

The said study was published in the journal Carcinogenesis.
