Teenagers should have a diet rich in fruits, vitamins C and E, and omega-3 fatty acids (derived from fish) to reduce their risk of respiratory conditions like asthma, chronic bronchitic symptoms, and wheeze.

As published this month in the journal Chest, lead author Jane Burns, from Harvard School of Public Health said:

"Our study, as well as other research, suggests that higher intakes of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory micronutrients are associated with lower reports of cough, respiratory infections, and less severe asthma-related symptoms.

Teenagers who have low dietary intakes of fruit, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids are at greater risk of having asthma, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet, composed of whole foods."

If we come to think of it, having a diet rich in fruits, vitamins C and E, and omega-3 fatty acids is good for the general health. Parents should really be more vigilant and should work hand in hand with their physicians in looking out for their kids' health.
