© helgasms! The FDA may approve a drug that does to women what Viagra does to men. A drug called flibanserin aims to help women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) by changing the levels in their brain chemicals associated with sexual libido.
Women suffering from HSDD experience lack or absence of sexual desire for sexual activity for some period of time. HSDD is a sexual dysfunction in women that can affect relationships.
Flibanserin - developed by Boehringer Ingelheim- works by reducing serotonin levels in the brain, essentially reducing signals from areas of the brain that inhibit feeling desire. It was first developed as an antidepressant by failed to work. Instead, a huge side effect was found: increased sexual libido!
I wonder how this drug is going to be embraced by women around the world? Its drugmaker should pinpoint other side effects.
