fat gene, now identified
How would you feel if you were told that the serious illness you have is because of the bad genes you've got? Ones genes have always been blamed for any condition that one gets later in life. While genes are a big contributing factor in any serious medical condition, it should not be forgotten that the patient's lifestyle and the environment in general has a big contribution as well.

But if understanding one's genes will lead to further understanding a certain disease or condition and is used for the discovery of its treatment and future prevention, then I guess the medical research profession is doing a noble job for the good of mankind.

Like for example the recent identification of the fat gene that researchers at Rutgers University has discovered which could provide an important clue to understand obesity further and which may lead to finding a new drug to control it. Read more of the news article at Rutgers.
