Here are some facts about sunscreen that we all should all keep in mind (found via):
1. Apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before going out in the sun as most of them needs time to react with your skin.
2. Zinc oxide or titanium oxide in sunscreens create an invisible barrier to UV rays on top of your skin and start working immediately.
3. SPF means sun protection factor. It determines how long a sunscreen will allow you to stay out in the sun without burning. Use at least an SPF 15.
4. The Environmental Protection Agency puts out a national UV index forecast map including daily sun protection advice. Check out your own city by putting in your ZIP code.
5. Although on the expensive side, sun-protective clothing with sunscreen in its fabric actually works.
6. SunGuard is a laundry additive that gives your clothes long-lasting sun protection when you add it to your laundry.
