Drinking Water Before Meals Helps In Dieting

Drinking two glasses of water three times a day before meals can help dieters lose an extra 5 lbs.

Such were the findings of scientists from Virginia Tech. The said scientists warned however, that while drinking water before each meal can make you feel full on zero calories, too much water can also lead to serious health problems.

In their study, over the course of 12 weeks, those drinking water lost about 15.5lbs while the others lost about 11lbs. Headed by Professor Brenda Davy, the said study was the first randomised controlled trial that looked at water consumption and dieting.

Brenda Davy - associate professor in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech - who is senior author on the study, said:

"We are presenting results of the first randomized controlled intervention trial demonstrating that increased water consumption is an effective weight loss strategy."

These findings were presented at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston.
