Abbott's CELL-DYN Ruby™ Hematology Instrument, Received USFDA Clearance
Filed in archive Diagnostics on July 24, 2006
Abbott recently announced that it has received 510(k) clearance from the USFDA for its automated, mid-volume hematology instrument, CELL-DYN Rubyâ„¢.
CELL-DYN Rubyâ„¢ is an instrument that has advanced laser optics that offers enhanced cellular analysis and greater efficiency for laboratories performing complete blood counts (CBCs).
CBC is test routinely ordered by doctors to assess a patient's overall health and to screen for a variety of disorders such as anemia and infection.
A key facet of CELL-DYN Rubyâ„¢ is its use of laser light to differentiate cellular components. Known as Multi-Angle Polarized Scatter Separation (MAPSSâ„¢), this all-optical technology provides detailed results in easy-to-view diagrams, visually depicting changes in white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets.
CELL-DYN Ruby also underwent a multi-center medical evaluation showing clinically equivalent results with CELL-DYN Sapphireâ„¢, a higher-volume, automated analyzer introduced about this time last year.
